Oswego Presbyterian Church
Oswego, Illinois
To accommodate a growing congregation and enhance the sense of community, a significant expansion was undertaken for a 1950s-era Presbyterian Church. A new worship space, designed to seat 450 people in a fan-shaped configuration, was added to the church. This modern addition was aimed at increasing seating capacity and fostering a stronger sense of togetherness among members.
The expansion also involved a reconfiguration of the original worship area. This space was transformed into a new entry and gathering area, as well as a dedicated choir rehearsal room. The removal of the balcony in the old sanctuary created a dramatic two-story space, which now houses a library and a meeting room, providing valuable additional facilities for the church community.
Additionally, the new 20,300-square-foot addition includes new classrooms for religious education and an unfinished basement, which offers potential for future development. The previous entry and library space were renovated to create new offices and meeting rooms, enhancing the functionality and efficiency of the church’s administrative areas.
This thoughtful redesign not only improved the church’s physical capacity but also enhanced its ability to serve and engage its congregation more effectively.
